Song and Dance Digital Scrapbooking Freebie

It’s done! Oh my goodness did this take me forever! This is the biggest kit I have made yet. I really hope you all like it! Included in this kit are 9 papers, 2 alphas – one pink and one blue, 8 chipboard word art, 4 single frames, 4 multi picture frames, 9 circle tags with strings, 9 circle tags without strings, 9 stapled stars, 6 stapled flowers, ballet shoes, 2 staples, and 9 stapled ribbons. I think that’s it. I might have missed something, but I think that’s it.

Here are the previews. I’m a little frustrated that you can’t see the details with them shrunk down this small, but I couldn’t fit everything in the preview unless I shrunk them pretty small.

Working on another freebie

I’ve got all the papers done for it a few frames and some stapled ribbons.  I’m still trying to figure out what else to put in it, but I’m getting close.  As soon as I get that done I am going to work on a black and white tutorial for PSE (Photoshop Elements).  I’ll do PSP (Paint Shop Pro) next and then finally Gimp.  I am hoping to get my next kit done in the next couple days, but I am really slow with elements.  I just always have a hard time coming up with ideas that and I have a hard time using elements in my pages.  Stay tuned!

Better black and white in photoshop tutorial

I am really big into photo enhancing and feel that your pictures should be the centerpiece of your digital scrapbook pages. I do not have the money for a really expensive camera so I usually enhance most of my photos. I am going to try and write a black & white tutorial for Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop Elements, and Gimp. I am starting with Photoshop. I also wanted to add since I am self taught there may be some extra steps, but this is just how *I* do it and I like the results so thought I’d share. I realize not everybody needs screen shots for every step, but I like to include them for those who do.

Here is my starting picture. This was not the best picture to start with, but I figured that would be all the better for using this one.

Here is my ending picture.

A lot of you have probably learned to do black & white by either going to Image > Desaturate or switching to greyscale. Here’s what my photo would look like if I had used desaturate to make it black and white. No matter how I adjusted the levels it still looked drab.

Not very exciting. Okay, now on to my tutorial.

Step 1. I almost always use an unsharpen mask on my photos. Sometimes I don’t if it looks bad, but most of the time I do. To get to the Unsharpen mask go to Filters> Sharpen> Unsharpen Mask (screen shot below)

I normally set my unsharpen mask at Amount: 50, Radius: 5, Threshhold: 0. Sometimes I go higher and sometimes lower, but that’s a good place to start. There are a few pictures that I won’t use the unsharpen mask on, but not many.

Step 2. Switch to Lab Color. Go up to the top where it says Image > Mode and switch from RGB color to Lab color.

Next you want to go over to the channel palette. It’s right with the layer palette and you want to select the lightness channel.

Step 3. Adjust the levels on the lightness channel. With the lightness channel still selected go to Image > Adjust > Levels to adjust the levels on this channel. You will want to slide the sliders around the one to the far left I usually drag to the right and I’ll play around with the middle slider until I get where it looks right to me. I left my settings for this photo in the screen shots.

Step 4. Go to Select all > Copy with the lightness channel still selected and then paste it into a new document. Once it is in a new document switch the mode back to RGB (like you did above this time picking RGB instead of lab color Image > Mode > RGB color)

Step 5. Channel Mixer. Go to Image > Adjust > Channel Mixer. We are going to increase the green. You will want to tick the check box next to monochrome and then slide the green slider over to the right. I set mine anywhere from as little as 4 to as high as 24.

Step 6. My last step is to sharpen the photo. Go to Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen.

And here is the final results again.

Paisley digital scrapbooking freebie

My latest freebie is done! Yay! I made all of these in photoshop and did everything myself. I think I have made some good progress with my ribbons. I made the ribbons and buckles by myself. I haven’t mastered the tied ribbons so I figured I’d just start with buckles for this kit. I made my first alpha for this kit and some journal papers too. There is a complete alpha for this kit, but I only displayed a few letters in the preview. Also, I created all of these in Photoshop, but saved the png files in Paint Shop Pro this time. I hope that fixes the problem people have been having with opening pngs in PSP. (If you still have problems let me know and I can resave the elements as .psp files.) Oh, also I saved these at 200dpi and the file size is much smaller than my others so I hope that will help with things.

Here’s a preview of the papers

I know I don’t have as many elements as other people do, but I hope you all will like this kit.

Starting to work on a new freebie

I am working on a blue paisley kit. Paisley is one of those things that I really have a hard time with, but I really like it. I’ve tried to do it before and just couldn’t get it right. This kit is probably going to take me a little bit to finish, but here’s a preview of the first paper. (It’s all I got done because it took me forever.) I plan to work on the rest of the papers this week and the elements if I can this weekend. Here’s a preview of the upcoming freebie.

Also, I am thinking of adding some photo enhancement tutorials to the blog. I am really big into enhancing my photos. I really think your photos should be the spotlight of your pages. If I have some time I will write up some for Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop Elements, and Gimp. (Don’t ask why I have all 4 programs, but I do. ) Anyhow that’s it for now.

Still playing with bows & ribbons

Well, I have been obsessed with learning how to make these suckers and I got the basic concept now, but I still haven’t made one that I am really happy with. I am going to keep at it though until I figure this out. Once I am happy with it I am going to try and make a PS action and/or a PSP script for it. Anyway, here’s my first bow (well my second because I made some for my Valentines kit too, but I am doing it a different way now.)

Vintage Tea Party Mini Kit Freebie

Okay, I’ve been messing with this one for several days now and just kind of tired of playing with it so figured I’d make it into a mini kit instead of a full kit. I just couldn’t think of what else to put in it. I’ve been playing around with making cardboard and the peeled back wallpaper look. I am really trying to learn some new tricks. I zipped this one up in PS and then again in PSP. I don’t know what I am doing wrong with saving pngs for PSP, but I figured I’d just save them as psp files and call it a day. If I get some time later I will resave, rezip, & reupload the birthday kit for psp. It’s got a lot of different files so I am just too tired to do it right now, but I will try to get it done.

Okay, here’s the preview of the mini kit. I was going for a tea party look, not sure if I pulled it off, :). The kit includes 3 papers and then 3 papers with the cardboard and peeled wallpaper backing, and a teapot, teacup, saucer, saucer & teacup together, spoon, and then a white and metal frame.

Here’s the links to download.

Here’s a page I made with it for Megan. I did make some other pages for my other kids in between this. I swear I don’t just do Megan’s pages, lol.

Here’s a page I made with Mandy’s kit for Leo. Figured I’d include that in this too, what the heck.
